Help updating steam
It's worth noting that this is a well discussed issue with no official solutions available, there are plenty of different suggestions on how this can be fixed though and some of these work for some of the people experiencing the problem some of the time, so you'll want to try all of them if you really want to stop Steam from verifying every time you start it.This issue can be exacerbated by anti-virus/internet security applications blocking Steam from doing what it wants to and reading all of Steam's files as the Steam application attempts to verify them.I even tried copying my updated steam over from my laptop although I figured that wouldn't work haha.It has to be something with my computer but I don't know what it could be.This validation, I concluded, was just a sanity check to be sure that the unexpected killing of Steam didn't corrupt any of its files. I had to open a console and run "cedega Steam Install.exe," rather than using the UI, but that doesn't matter: Steam installed... This screen seemingly uses 100% CPU indefinitely, and nothing, not even the cancel button have any effect. Additionally, Steam will occasionally verify all of its files, to ensure that everything is as it should be. This window is displayed while the update is installed or verification process is running to provide feedback to you (the user) that something is actually happening, rather than staying completely silent, leading you to think that the application hasn't started.
i just bought a brand new computer with windows vista home premium and Counter Strike Source, installed it and when i run it, it starts updating and at about 25% the following message appears: Debug Assertion Failed Program: C:/Program Files/Steam/File: /p4clients/rel_beta/Projects/Common/Misc/Win32Line: 447 b Close Ret == 0L (Press Retry to Debug the Application - JIT debugging must be enabled) What is JIT? well when i run Steam that message appeared all the times...I've tried contacting steam but I'm sure you all know how useful they are.
